Each year, I select a Word of the Year—a simple yet meaningful word that guides my personal and professional focus. As the Executive Director at The Burlington Creek Senior Living in Kansas City, Missouri, the start of a new year always feels like the perfect time to reset, refocus, and prepare for the challenges and opportunities ahead. My chosen word serves as an anchor, shaping how I lead my team, support families, and care for residents. Reflecting on 2024, I am amazed at how much my Word of the Year influenced our journey.
My Word of the Year for 2024 was perseverance. This word guided my decisions, strengthened relationships, and fueled personal and professional growth. 2024 was a year of significant change and development—for both myself and our community. With perseverance as my guiding principle, I remained focused on pushing through challenges and making consistent progress, even during difficult times.
Perseverance inspired me to approach obstacles with determination and resilience. It became the foundation for every effort, helping me remain committed to my goals while fostering growth within our community.
The lessons from 2024 have reinforced my belief in the power of persistence. Overcoming challenges and achieving milestones has boosted my confidence in both my personal and professional journey. As I look ahead, I am ready to carry these lessons forward.
Building on the foundation of perseverance, my Word of the Year for 2025 is grit. This word represents resilience, determination, and unwavering focus as I approach every goal. Grit will guide me to tackle challenges with strength and maintain my commitment to excellence in leadership, relationships, and personal growth.
